Homeschooling

We have homeschooled our children for almost two years now and it has been the best decision for us in many ways. Many of our friends and family don't quite understand our convictions for homeschooling so this page is to let everybody know why exactly we have made this decision.

First of all, it has allowed us more time with our children to see their hearts and minds develop in Christ and to work with them at every possible turn. We love to be with are children.True, you can do that at 3:00 when they get home from school but you really have lost a major portion of the day. It has allowed us to structure what our children learn so as to maximize and ephasize the teaching of Scripture in everything, for example six day creation vs. evolution. It has made it normal to be home and abnormal to be anywhere else. That is, wandering the streets with friends, malls, or at friends houses just doesn't happen. Thereby lessening the influence of purposelessness in their hearts. Our children enjoy being home and having friends over for dinner. They enjoy helping prepare meals and we work together to clean up. I really don't think that kind of mindset would be there had they still been only home on the weekends and evenings. It has protected our children from the blatant corruption that is acceptable to the world, but unecceptable to Christ. Some would say we can't keep our children from sin. That is true since sin is in them. However, what are we drawing out of their hearts by way of a particular sin that you allow to be viewed and/ or experienced? Why work against yourself? We are trying to minimize the world and its influence and maximize the Scripture and its influence and we will be able to deal with their hearts in a much more efficient way. Homeschooling has forced us to learn really what it means to take responsibility for our children. The reality hits you at some point that you are responsible for the amount ( little or large) that they have learned. Being in the mix of our children's lives at a tremendously constant level has taught us the joy of sacrificing "us" for them. What a joy!

Now having said all that, no, we do not believe that Deuteronomy 6 teaches homeschooling nor does it teach public schooling. We believe it teaches the priority of Scriptural truth over the fundamentals of life in all places and at all times. It teaches the priority of the father to teach/train his children at all times. Home education is a greater place for us to obey that instruction. For example, if our children are at school from 7AM to 3PM (8hrs) 5 days a week, not counting extra curricular activities in the evenings and on the weekends, in reality, how much time could we give them? How much time is left? We couldn't imagine only having about two hours with our children a day to teach them. That eight hours away from us in a place where God is hated and sin surrounds them all day would have a huge influence on their lives and that was just unexeptable to us. We feel we should fully disciple our children before throwing them out into the world before they are ready

We homeschool our children because it is the right decision for our family and God was calling us to it. We feel we cant obey Gods word without homeschooling. We are not here to tell you have to homeschool or criticize others for having different convictions. We are simply letting you know our own conviction for it.
